College Activities- an update on competitions

and assembly overview.

Over the last few weeks, you may have heard the phrase "Black lives matter" and the name "George Floyd". Unfortunately, George Floyd passed away last month because he was not treated kindly or with respect. This has made many people around the world angry and upset, as this was not the first time this had happened.

Our world is full of people with different likes, dislikes, background, culture, food, language, history and much more. That's what makes us all so interesting and special.

Because of this, we wanted to encourage children to research inspirational Black British figures. We were thrilled to receive so many amazing entries for our Black History Poster competition!

Choosing a winning college was really tricky, but in terms of number of entries, a huge well done to Mercury who came 1st and achieved four points, Mars who came 2nd, winning three points, Jupiter who came 3rd with two points and Saturn who came 4th with one point.

Our virtual bake off to support Macmillan Cancer Support was also a huge success. Saturn triumphed with some amazing cakes, winning four points. Mars came 2nd, gaining three points, followed by Jupiter coming in third and winning two points and Mercury achieving fourth, gaining one point.

Our last College Assembly on Friday 16th October was incredibly special; as College Leaders, we loved seeing our classes virtually over Zoom and giving them an update on all our college news. We were very lucky to have Mr Webber share some slides on mental health as well.

We have an upcoming Computational Thinking College Competition! Mrs Trivedi will share usernames and passwords after half-term in computing. The best scorers in each category will win points for their College, as well as a best in school certificate and maybe even the chance to compete at Oxford University with other top scorers from different schools! This is an exciting opportunity not to be missed!

Have a wonderful and safe half-term everyone. We look forward to seeing our Colleges (virtually) during Autumn 2.

Best wishes,

The College Team

(Ms Joseph-Fenwick, Ms McLeod, Ms O'Meara, Ms Rai and Mr Creedon).
