Britain at War

In the Britain at War project, your child will learn about World War 1 and which countries played a major part. They will discover the consequences of the Treaty of Versailles.

The pupils of Year 6 will also learn about the causes and main events of the Second World War and will research how Britain prepared itself for war and the war’s impact on civilian life. We will be learning about the Battle of Britain and how it proved to be a key turning point for the Allied Powers.

The children will find out about the consequences of the end of the Second World War and investigate the legacy of the wars in Britain. Focusing closer to home, they will research the life of a local First World War hero who sacrificed their life fighting for Britain and investigate the legacy of these global conflicts in the post-war period.

As a year group, they will be looking into the role of the different nationalities involved in the war and children will be encouraged to investigate the reasons why certain nations joined the conflicts. Alongside this, we will be researching roles of men and women during both wars and dispelling stereotypes children might have about male and female responsibilities.
